Weston College has launched a fantastic range of short summer courses aimed at 11-16 year olds. ART AND DESIGN

Age Range: 11-16
Dates: 5th-7th August
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Loxton Campus

The Art and Design Summer School is a chance to develop skills in drawing, painting, mixed media and 3D art. This will be a fun and experimental way to develop your art and design skills. Alongside others that share similar interests, you will have the chance to work as a team, which is a great way to meet new people and be creative.

 

IT & COMPUTING

Age Range: 14-16
Dates: 13th-15th August
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: South West Skills Campus

The summer school will allow you to build and set-up your own PC. You’ll learn the internal components of a computer and what they do, install operating systems and assemble your own PC. Computing has come a long way in a short space of time and this pace of change will only continue. This workshop is ideal for any tech-savvy teens that want to get some fantastic hands-on experience.

 

MULTI SKILLS

Age Range: 14-16
Dates: 5th-9th August
Time: 10.30am-2.30pm
Location: South West Skills Campus

Come along and try a range of different construction sessions at our South West Skills Campus. Tasters include: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, civil engineering and motor vehicle. Each day you will be ‘hands on’ learning new skills in our new state of the art workshops.

 

ROCK SCHOOL

Age Range: 11-16
Dates: 5th-9th August
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Loxton Campus

Rock school gives bands and solo artists the opportunity to benefit from some expert coaching. Rock school is a great place to develop your music performance and writing skills with other young musicians. Throughout the sessions we will be working on cover versions and also original material.

 

FASHION & TEXTILES

Age Range: 14-16
Dates: 12th-15th August
Time: 10am-2pm
Location: Knightstone Campus

Calling all trend setters! Ever dreamed of designing and making your own clothes and accessories? The Fashion and Textiles summer school allows you to experiment with fashion design, illustration, dying, printing and sewing. If you can’t sew, don’t panic … help is at hand! We’ll be upcycling some old clothes to give them a new lease of life so please bring any old items you may have (the bigger, the better – jeans and t-shirts are great).

 

MAKE-UP, HAIR AND SPECIAL EFFECTS FOR MEDIA

Age Range: 12-16
Dates: 6th-8th August
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Knightstone Campus

Join us and develop your creative skills in character make-up, body painting and special effects for media and theatre. You’ll be given an introduction to a range of techniques, working with industry specialists to test products and create characters and realistic injuries. This is a fun and creative way to try something new and get a taste for the full-time course!

 

PERFORMING ARTS

Age Range: 11-16
Dates: 6th-8th August
Time: 10am-3pm

Acting? Check. Singing? Check. Dancing? Check! With support from our experienced staff, you’ll create and perform a short musical. Whether you’re an aspiring performer or just want to have fun and meet new people, this summer school is perfect for building confidence and experiencing our full-time Level 3 Performing Arts course.

 

HAIR & BEAUTY

Age Range: 14-16
Dates: 12th-15th August
Time: 10am-2pm
Location: Knightstone Campus

Interested in becoming a hairdresser or beautician? This hands-on workshop you will show you what it takes to work in this ever-growing industry. You’ll also have the chance to experiment with festival-themed make-up, nails and nail art along with styling skills so you can create your own professional image by the end of the week.

 

MEDIA PRODUCTION

Age Range: 14-16
Dates: 5th-9th August
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Loxton Campus

You’ll get to film using our state of the art equipment and edit with a range of software, including Final Cut Pro. By the end of the week you’ll have create a showreel to showcase your work, which might include an advert or music video to your favourite song. You’ll also experience a ‘green screen day’ and design film posters and music video posters on Photoshop.

 

PROFESSIONAL CHEF

Age Range: 14-16
Dates: 5th-9th August
Time: 10am-2pm
Location: Knightstone Campus

Bound for Bake Off? Made for Masterchef? This course is great for keen cooks who are looking for an introduction to a career as a professional chef. Here you will explore a range of culinary cuisine, focusing on preparation with local ingredients. Don’t miss out on your chance to learn some fantastic new skills and ‘spice’ up your summer!

 

PHOTOGRAPHY

Age range: 11-13
Date: 5th-7th August
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Loxton Campus

The Photography Summer School is a chance to try out and explore some photography techniques using the dark room and digital processes. This will be a fun and experimental way to develop your photography skills and look at different formats of imagery from portraiture to Instagram. Alongside others that share similar interests, you will have the chance to work as a team, which is a great way to meet new people and be creative!
